Yes, while we know there’s a lot of great works longer than our limits we had to set them somewhere. Please keep our limits in mind before submitting.

Short stories must be 10,000 words or less.

Poetry must be 100 lines or less.

For short stories and poetry we accept documents in the doc and docx file formats.

For illustrations we accept jpg and png file formats. Please keep in mind the file size needs to be 20mb or less.

We have spoken with many publishers to find the best arrangement possible. Our goal is to create a quality publication for our entrant while keeping the cost as low as possible for selling it. We have found one that should work well for both goals.

We will be offering two versions of the publication: eBook and print. The eBook edition will have full color for all illustrations submitted in color. However, the print edition will have all images and stories in black and white.

Under the Berne Convention, copyright existed on the Work as soon as the Creator created it and certainly no later than the first time an electronic file of it was saved. The copyright belongs to and will remain with the Creator. The Publisher will not register any copyright in the Work but may choose to register a copyright in Sibyl’s Scriptorium as a compilation.

You are welcome to enter either the Adult division of the contest or the School Age division. However, you can only enter one division.

Yes, as long as you’re not a winner of a term in the same contest year. If you are a winner already, congratulations and please consider entering again during the next contest year.

Yes! If you are an incredibly talented soul that is excellent at short stories, poetry, and illustration, please enter all three. If you’re not great at everything, enter what you are good at. Just keep in mind you can only enter one division per contest.

If you have submitted a work and it did not place in a term, it’s best to submit something new next time. Each new story can incorporate new knowledge you have gained and be better than your earlier work.

However, if you submit a work and it is withdrawn from a term due to being a winner in a previous triad, yes, please do submit the work again in a following contest year.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) generated art is art direction and not skill-based generation of art. SibScript exists to celebrate the skills gained through hard work and education. Just like writing this cannot be learned without the doing.

Our current opinion is that there are ethical questions on the fact AI generators use art scanned into the program to “train” the generator without permission of the original artists or payment. Artists pay in time or education to gain these skills. In our opinion, this is not the same as an artist influencing another artist. We feel that AI generation takes away from the ability of an artist to learn from the process.

We do acknowledge that an AI generator can be used as a tool to help an artist envision a piece, shorten coloration time, and fast track work.

Companies benefiting financially from AI generators while cutting out original artists are benefiting from artists work product without paying for it. SibScript has chosen not to be one of those companies.

In ancient Greece, a Sibyl was an oracle. In myth, the earliest of Sibyls prophesied at holy sites such as Delphi and Pessinos. Scriptorium is a Latin word meaning “Place of Writing.” The two together mean the oracle’s place of writing. Where science fiction and fantasy are visions of other realities in all it’s forms, this is a fitting name.
