This month we will be spotlighting Wendy Knight. While she does not have the longest track record of authors, she shows what a lot of hard work can do.

So you want to write and can’t stop dreaming about that day when your first novel will be published? I can imagine (since I am still working toward reaching that goal myself) it would be a very exciting year. It would be both thrilling and a lot of work. Now times all that by four and you would have what author Wendy Knight has done this year.

Her first book debuted this year on March 18, 2013, Feudlings which has had two more in the series come out in July and September. Her latest book, Warrior Beautiful, is in a second series and is currently in the top 100 on Amazon for Fantasy, Mythology & Folk Tales, and Fairy Tales.

Of her books, I have read Warrior Beautiful. If you haven’t seen it yet, it is worth it. This young adult book deals with unicorns in a truly unique way and shows that even ideas as old as these mythological creatures still have untold facets. The human characters are great too.

What does she say about herself?

Wendy Knight was born and raised in Utah by a wonderful family who spoiled her rotten because she was the baby. Now she spends her time driving her husband crazy with her many eccentricities (no water after five, terror when faced with a live phone call, etcetera, etcetera). She also enjoys chasing her three adorable kids, playing tennis, watching football, reading, and hiking. Camping is also big: her family is slowly working toward a goal of seeing all the National Parks in the U.S.

You can usually find her with at least one Pepsi nearby, wearing ridiculously high heels for whatever the occasion may be. And if everything works out just right, she will also be writing.

I had the fortune to speak with Wendy this morning and here is her advice for new writers:
I’m all-knowing and uber-wise. Really. So here’s my advice to everyone writing: DON’T QUIT. I put it all in caps locks so you know how important it is. We all start our stories thinking they’re so, so awesome. Then somehow, we get to the middle and decide the story sucks. We suck. Everything sucks. We don’t deserve to write. So we quit. Don’t do that! Even huge authors like Stephen King have this. It’s a syndrome of some sort. Someone should give it a name. Maybe it has a name and I just don’t know it. Keep writing. Finish that story. You can fix anything but a blank page! And I bet by the time you finish, you’ll realize that the story is amazing, you’re amazing, everything is amazing!
